About

Cove Cottage is situated in Double Cove, Queen Charlotte Sound. It sits on a flat site facing northwest on a bush-clad, private small headland overlooking its own bay, jetty and boatshed. An easy walk up a wide path takes you to the cottage which has 2 bedrooms; a double room with King size bed and the other with 2 singles. There is also a cabin in the bush with a king size bed (easily transformed into 2 singles) with its own en suite bathroom and a little deck with superb views to the water. All linen is provided and beds are made up ready for you. The house has recently been completely redecorated in a seaside cottage style. It features a modern kitchen with dishwasher, fresh new bathroom facilities, laundry facilities and Gas barbeque. Cove Cottage is fully furnished and has a small collection of books, maps and indoor games DVD played and monitor. The newly constructed deck off the dining area is sheltered and obtains lots of sun. The drinking water is filtered and safe. The kitchen has a small supply of basic starter cooking needs – oil, flour, sugar, tea bags, coffee etc. There is good cell phone reception.

Cove Cottage is very private with no immediate neighbours. It lies well to all day sun and is very sheltered from the wind. Tuis, bellbirds, wekas, glow worms and the odd possum frequent this peaceful spot as well as gannets, penguins, seals and occasional dolphins that come into the bay. The “Tame Fish” are just around the corner. There are no roads to Double Cove but it is only 6kms (12 minutes in a motorboat) from Picton and is well serviced by water taxis and water ‘buses’ which have 5 or 6 scheduled runs a day. Arrangements can easily be made with the Picton supermarkets for food deliveries via the water taxis to Cove Cottage.

The boatshed has 2 sit-upon kayaks, one smaller sit-in kayak and a dinghy .. The deep water beside the jetty allows large boats to tie up and is a safe, calm area for water sports. There is a mooring nearby capable of taking large yachts or launches.

The owners, Nigel and Sue Hutchinson, live around the corner and are usually available if assistance is required.
